Concealed Carrier Stops Mass Shooting After Taking a Bullet in the Head.
This is a heroic story of a man who was shot in the head, went unconscious, but woke up and saved his family and other partygoers by stopping a mass shooting.
According to Fox News reports, On July 3, 2022, Raul Mendez, his pregnant wife, and two kids attended a Fourth of July party in Sunrise, Arizona.
In attendance were around thirty other people.
A few moments into the party, the host’s neighbor showed up without an invite and without knowing anyone in attendance.
The man, later identified as Jason Hunt, suddenly opened fire for no reason.
Before Mendez could understand what was happening, his friend had been shot dead, and Mendez himself had been shot through his head with the bullet exiting through his left eye.
Mendez hit the ground unconscious.
His wife later said she “just knew he was dead from the profuse bleeding.”
Everyone at the party fled, with Mendez’s family hiding in one of the bedrooms.
The assaulter continued shooting aimlessly before two women tried to stop him.
The women yelled at Mendez to get up since they knew he almost always had a concealed carry pistol on him.
“By the glory of God or the adrenaline and just everything, just the will to live and the will to protect my family, I was able to hear those pleas, those yells for help. I heard my name. And I was able to get up,” he said. – as reported by FOX News.
Mendez pulled out his concealed carry gun and shot the attacker in the chest four times, instantly killing him and stopping the threat.
Two of Mendez’s close friends, Carl Dinora, 38, and Conrradito Ochoa, 41, were reportedly killed in the shooting.
The local police, in a statement, said Mendez acted in self-defense to protect himself and others at the event.
Raul Mendez was hospitalized for a week, undergoing different surgeries and treatments. He lost his sense of smell and his left eye, tore an eardrum, and broke his jaw.
He told the NRA he’d rather look deformed than lie dead with his family.
“This world is unpredictable. And honestly, at the end of the day, the people that want to ban guns are only banning it from good people, not criminals,” he told Fox News. “Because again, there [are] no gun laws for criminals.”
Mendez has bought two additional firearms for his wife and kids to practice shooting and self-defense, claiming they’re “more ready to confront evil than ever.”
